Why am I receiving an error regarding "Express Checkout" when using PayPal as my merchant account?

The first thing you will want to do after selecting a merchant account is to test and verify you have your settings correct.  If you are using PayPal as your merchant account option, you will need to enable "Express Checkout" directly within PayPal's settings or your client will receive the following error:




This error is coming directly from PayPal and indicates that "Express Checkout" is still disabled from within your PayPal account.  If you have a PayPal Premier account, please navigate to www.paypal.com/profile. If you have a PayPal Business account, you will want to navigate to www.paypal.com, log in, and click on "profile".

You will want to make sure that the "Express Checkout" option is turned on (enabled).  While there, you may also want to turn on the "PayPal Optional" feature (this allows people without a PayPal account to simply pay with their credit card).  Click on "Selling Tools > Website Preferences", scroll down until you see "PayPal Optional" and enable the setting if you would like to take advantage of this option.  If you continue to have issues (PayPal often will change their site layout), please contact their support directly on how the best way to "Enable Express Checkout" for your account.


*Please note that if this was not turned on when you originally connected PayPal to 17hats, you may need to reconnect it from within your "Account Settings" ("My Account", "Account Settings", "Invoice Options").
